以前私の旦那がHunter S. Thomsponの本を読んでたり、「Fear loathing in Las Vagas」（映画）等などからハンタートンプソンの名前は知ってはいたんだけど、「Gonzo」を観るまで彼が本当はどんな人だったのか知らなかった。
「Gonzo」はハンターのライティングスタイルらしく、それが題名になったこの映画は彼のライターとしての生涯を描いている。「Fear loathing in Las Vagas」でハンター役を演じたジョーニーデップがハンターの文節を朗読し、旧夫人やハンターの友人、仕事仲間や関係者のインタビュー、そしてハンター自身が出ているアーカイブビデオなどで構成されたドキュメンタリーである。

ハンターの行動、発言は極めて無謀で過激な所がたくさんあるが、彼の書く文書は迫真かつ本物だと思う。そして、もし今のアメリカにハンターのようなユーモアセンスのある汚染されない誠実なライターがいたらきっと何かが違っていたんだろうと惜しむ気持ちも余韻として心に残った。
