stone mountain 1

It's nice to spend a relaxed weekend and evening with friends over a nice meal and a glass of wine. But it's also nice to physically get out of the everyday routine by exploring into new places.

Stone Mountain is located about 30 minutes from where we live. So it seemed like it will be a nice get away place for us in the future. As the name of mountain suggests, this mountain is a large granite dome monadnock. The elevation of the mountain is 1683 feet. The trails which lead to the top of the mountain were gradual so that it wasn't bad at all for climbing.

The three carved figures on the side of the mountain are Stonewall Jackson, Robert E. Lee, and Jefferson Davis. They were 2 well-known confederate generals and president. Looking at the carving from the bottom I couldn't even grasp how immense and so unreal the whole picture was. Later I found out the carving started sometime in 1915 and was completed in 1972.
